Etymology
May be a coinage within Japanese of Middle Chinese-derived elements, as a compound of 現 (gen, “apparent; current”) + 示 (ji, “display, show”). First attested in 1894.[1]
Appears to be a rare term, not included in various dictionaries.[2][3][4]
