湯文字

Moji kotoba (文(も)字(じ)詞(ことば)) combining the initial ゆ (yu) of 湯具(ゆぐ) (yugu, “bathing garment”) and 文字(もじ) (moji, “character”) (alternatively from 湯巻(ゆまき) (yumaki)), originally referring to a simple wrap around the wearer's loins when using a public bath or hot spring.^[1][2]

1. a simple lightweight garment used by both men and women to wrap around the wearer's loins when using a public bath or hot spring
2. a traditional Japanese women's undergarment similar to the bathing garment, covering from the hips to roughly the legs, and generally worn under a kimono
