Dàjiǎo zhě, tiānwáng dì tíng. Qí liǎngpáng gè yǒu sān xīng, dǐngzú jù zhī, yuē Shètí. “Shètí” zhě, zhí “Dǒu” biāo suǒ zhǐ, yǐ jiàn shíjié, gù yuē “Shètígé”. [Pinyin]

Dàjiǎo (Arcturus) is the celestial court of the Heavenly King. On each side are three stars, arranged like the legs of a tripod, called Shèti. Shèti is where the Dipper's handle points, used to mark seasons; hence Shètigé.

The origin of 攝提 / 摄提 is obscure.

Glyph forms in the Tsinghua Bamboo Slips (攝 / 摄 ⿱⿰耳耳大, 提 ⿱⿴𦥑日𤴓) may depict the asterism's configuration—stars "grasping" a central body.
