Compound of 呉服(ごふく) (gofuku, fabric, drapery; dry goods) + (たな) (tana, store).[1][2][3] The tana changes to dana as an instance of rendaku ((れん)(だく)). As a standalone noun, tana is usually spelled in kanji as with a meaning of “shelf, shelves”. In certain contexts, and when spelled as , the reference is to the shelves of inventory, and by extension, a store or merchant selling that inventory.[3]

      吳服店 (kyūjitai)

Compound of 呉服(ごふく) (gofuku, fabric, drapery; dry goods) + (てん) (-ten, store).[1] Appears to be a reanalysis of the reading, applying the more common on'yomi of ten to the kanji and changing this to a straight-on'yomi compound reading.
