Wǔwáng yǐ píng Yīn luàn, tiānxià zōng Zhōu, ér Bóyí, Shūqí chǐ zhī, yì bù shí Zhōu sù, yǐn yú Shǒuyángshān, cǎiwēi ér shí zhī. Jí è qiě sǐ, zuògē, qí cí yuē: “Dēng bǐ Xīshān xī, cǎi qí wēi yǐ. Yǐbàoyìbào xī, bùzhī qí fēi yǐ!......” [Pinyin]
After King Wu had conquered and pacified the people of the Yin, the world now honored the house of Zhou as its ruler. But Bo Yi and Shu Qi were filled with outrage and considered it unrighteous to eat the grain of Zhou, so they fled and hid on Shouyang Mountain, where they tried to live on ferns they gathered. On the brink of starvation, they sang a song:
We climb this western hill and pick its ferns;
changing a tyranny by violence, he knows nothing about his own fault. ...
