From 七 (nana, shichi, “seven”) + clipping of 短冊 (tanzaku, “small strip of paper that can be written on”).

- (hanafuda) A 出来役 (dekiyaku, “meld”) consisting of seven tanzaku cards, sometimes excluding the tanzaku card of the willow suit.
