      (いま)のように護謨輪(ゴムわ)のない時分(じぶん)でしたから、がらがらいう(いや)(ひび)きがかなりの距離(きょり)でも(みみ)()つのです。
      Ima no yō ni gomuwa no nai jibun deshita kara, garagara iu iya na hibiki ga kanari no kyori demo mimi ni tatsu no desu.
      Unlike now, there were no rubber tyres in those days, so the awful rattling could be heard from quite far away.
