      (じょう)さんの(がっ)(こう)(とも)(だち)ときたま(あそ)びに()(こと)はありましたが、(きわ)めて(ちい)さな(こえ)で、いるのだかいないのだか(わか)らないような(はなし)をして(かえ)ってしまうのが(つね)でした。
      O-jō-san no gakkō tomodachi ga tokitama asobi ni kuru koto wa arimashita ga, kiwamete chīsa na koe de, iru no da ka inai no da ka wakaranai yō na hanashi o shite kaette shimau no ga tsune deshita.
      O-jō-san's school friends would come over from time to time, but they would always speak so quietly that one could hardly tell whether they were there or not.
