First attested as 아샤 (/⁠a.sʲa⁠/), 아ᅀᅡ (/⁠a.za⁠/) (Haytong Ceykwukki, 1501). It originally was defined as "father" in the text. Current definitions seem to be semantic shifts from "father" to "old man", "grandpa".
