ῥίψ

Ancient Greek

Alternative forms

  • ῥῖπος (rhîpos)

Etymology

No agreement outside Greek. Traditionally connected with ῥίπτω (rhíptō, to throw; to hurl) on the basis of a shared underlying sense of "turn; wind". However, this connection fails due to the weak semantics.
