ἀφαυρός

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Unknown. Furnée compares φαῦρος (phaûros, light), φλαῦρος (phlaûros, indifferent, bad) and φαῦλος (phaûlos, insignificant). Beekes suggests that ἀμαυρός (amaurós, dark) could also be a cognate, believing that this word is of Pre-Greek origin.
