ἀφαυρός
Ancient Greek
Etymology
Unknown. Furnée compares φαῦρος (phaûros, “light”), φλαῦρος (phlaûros, “indifferent, bad”) and φαῦλος (phaûlos, “insignificant”). Beekes suggests that ἀμαυρός (amaurós, “dark”) could also be a cognate, believing that this word is of Pre-Greek origin.
