From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *Pi(k) per STEDT (under *s-bəy-n/k). Compare Tibetan སྦྱིན (sbyin), Burmese ပေး (pe:), Chinese 畀 (OC *pids), 賓 (OC *mpin).
