Etymology 1

From Proto-Karen *laŋᴬ (“to descend”). Cognate with Eastern Pwo လင် (làɴ), Pa'o Karen လင်ꩻ (lāŋ), Western Pwo လၩ့. Luce (1985) provisionally lists လီၤ as a "pure" Karen word whose origin cannot be traced outside of the Karen languages.
