Etymology
From လက် (lak, “arm”) + a component ပမ်း (pam:), found only in this word, of unclear interpretation and origin. Note, however, a plausible interpretation of the second syllable as denoting "to make go down", which may stem from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *pam (“to go down”).
