Etymology

Inherited from Old Burmese ဖုရာ (phurā) and Old Burmese ပုရ်္ဟာ (pūrhā), likely borrowed from Sanskrit वर पूजार्ह (vara pūjārha, venerable enclosure). Further development might havr been influenced by the likes of Shan ၽြႃး (phráa) and Mon ပြဲ, which derive from Sanskrit वर (vara) or Pali vara .
