หาย

From Proto-Tai *ʰrwɤːjᴬ (“to disappear”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᩉᩣ᩠ᨿ, Khün ᩉᩣ᩠ᨿ, Lao ຫາຍ (hāi), Lü ᦠᦻ (ḣaay), Shan ႁၢႆ (hǎai), Tai Nüa ᥞᥣᥭᥴ (háay), Phake ꩭႝ (hay), Ahom 𑜑𑜩 (hay) or 𑜍𑜩 (ray).

1. (obsolete, intransitive) to ruin, to wreck; to collapse, to fall; to perish, to be destroyed; to end, to pass^[1]
   • 1292, แผนกตรวจรักษาของโบราณ, “หลักที่ ๑ (จารึกพ่อขุนรามคำแหง)”, in ประชุมจารึกสยาม ภาคที่ ๑, พระนคร: โรงพิมพ์พระจันทร์, published 1934, pages 8–9:

     ผู้ใด...หายกว่าเหย้าเรือน...ไว้แก่ลูกมันสิ้น

     pûu-dai ... hǎai gwàa yâo-rʉʉan ... wái gɛ̀ɛ lûuk man sîn

     Whoever...passed away [shall have his] household...devolve upon his children in its entirety.
