Etymology 1

Possibly clipping of กระหม่อม (grà-mɔ̀m, head (upper part of the body). Cognate with Lao ໝ່ອມ (mǭm), Northern Thai ᩉ᩠ᨾᩬ᩵ᨾ (mɔm²), Khün ᩉ᩠ᨾᩬ᩵ᨾ (mɔm²), ᦖᦸᧄᧈ (ṁoam¹), Shan မွမ်ႇ (màum). Compare Khmer ម៉ម (mɑɑm).
