Etymology
Compound of สมัย (sà-mǎi, “time”) + พระเจ้า (prá-jâao, an honorific for a king, buddha, buddha image, etc, literally “holy lord”) + เหา (hǎo), literally “Holy Lord Hao's time”.
The term is believed to refer to the Siamese revolution of 1688, a period in the Thai history that started at the Holy Lord Hao's Hall within the Narai's Palace. The hall is believed to have been named after the Buddha image it housed.[1]
