Etymology
Compound of ยักษ์ (yák, “yaksha”, a type of malevolent mythological creature) + ปักหลั่น (the name of a fictional character), literally “Paklan the yaskha”.
After a character in Rammakian, the Thai version of the Hindu epic Rāmāyaṇa, who was originally a deity but was turned into a yaksha as a punishment for the adulterous acts he committed, and was sent down to the Earth to guard the magical pond โบกขรณี.[1]
