Etymology

From Proto-Tai *mɯːtᴰ (dark),[1] from Old Chinese (OC *mɯːds).

Cognate with Northern Thai ᨾᩨ᩠ᨯ, Lao ມືດ (mư̄t), Tai Dam ꪣꪳꪒ, Zhuang mwt in najmwt (frowning and worried).
