From Proto-Tai *q.wakᴰ (“sheath; pod”).[1]
Cognate with Lao ຝັກ (fak), Northern Thai ᨺᩢ᩠ᨠ, Khün ᨺᩢ᩠ᨠ, Lü ᦚᧅ (ḟak), Tai Dam ꪠꪰꪀ, Tai Dón ꪠꪰꪀ, Shan ၽၵ်း (phák) or ၾၵ်း (fák), Phake ၸ︀က︀် (phak), Zhuang faek.
