Etymology

Borrowed from Pali parimaṇḍala (sphere; orb, literally surrounding circle), from pari (around; surrounding) + maṇḍala (disk; circle); ultimately from Sanskrit परिमण्डल (parimaṇḍala), from परि (pari) + मण्डल (maṇḍala).

By surface analysis, ปริ (bpà-rí) +‎ มณฑล (mon-ton).

Cognate with Burmese ပရိမဏ္ဍလ (pa.ri.manda.la.), Old Khmer parimaṇḍala, Modern Khmer បរិមណ្ឌល (bɑɑrɨmndɔɔl).
