Compare Middle Chinese 諂 (MC trhjemX, “flatter”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨩᩫ᩠ᨾ, Khün ᨩᩫ᩠ᨾ, Lao ຊົມ (som), Lü ᦋᦳᧄ (tsum), Shan ၸူမ်း (tsúum).
