Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Dravidian *pun-ṯṯ (“anthill”). Cognate with Gondi పుత్తి (putti, “anthill”), Kannada ಹುತ್ತ (hutta, “anthill”), Tamil புற்று (puṟṟu, “anthill”) and Telugu పుట్ట (puṭṭa, “anthill”).
