Cognate with Kannada ತಿಪ್ಪುಳು (tippuḷu, “fur, feather”), Tamil தூவல் (tūval, “feather”) and Sanskrit तूल (tūla, “fluff, cotton”). Doublet of തൂലിക (tūlika).
