Etymology
Compound of ഇന്തു (intu, “the Indus”) + ഉപ്പ് (uppŭ, “salt”), the former being the tadbhava of Sanskrit सिन्धु (sindhu, “the Indus”). Cognate with Tamil இந்துப்பு (intuppu, “pink salt”).
