1. to be; to become

   അവൻ ഒരു ഡോക്ടർ ആയി.

   avaṉ oru ḍōkṭaṟ āyi.

   He became a doctor.

   10 മിനിറ്റ് കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ 5 മണി ആകും.

   10 miniṟṟŭ kaḻiññāl 5 maṇi ākuṁ.

   It will be 5 o'clock in 10 minutes.

2. to commence; to have arrived (of time, seasons, etc)

   മഴക്കാലം ആയി.

   maḻakkālaṁ āyi.

   The rainy season has arrived.

3. to be possible; to be able

   എനിക്ക് അത് ചെയ്യാൻ ആകില്ല.

   enikk atŭ ceyyāṉ ākilla.

   I cannot do that / It is not possible for me to do that.
