First attested in c. 1729–1745[1] as Middle Gujarati घडीयाल (“gong”), from Old Gujarati घडीआल (ghaḍīāla) (c. 1497-1531), from Sanskrit *घटीताड (*ghaṭītāḍa), from घटी (ghaṭī, “pot, water clock, period of 24 minutes”) + ताड (tāḍa, “blow”).[2]

- His name was Maung-Pu. He worked in a rice mill. He earned about twenty rupees a month.
