Feminine of કોઠો (koṭho), inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀓𑁄𑀝𑁆𑀞 (koṭṭha), from Sanskrit कोष्ठ (kṓṣṭha), from Proto-Indo-European *kus-t(ʰ)-ōd-, a derivative of *(s)kewH- (“to hide, cover”). Cognate with Bengali কুঠি (kuṭhi), Hindustani کوٹھی / कोठी (koṭhī), Odia କୋଠି (koṭhi), and Sindhi ڪوٺيِ (koṭhyi) / कोठी (koṭhī).
