From earlier ઓશીસું (ośīsũ) with influence from Sanskrit, inherited from Prakrit 𑀉𑀲𑁆𑀲𑀻𑀲 (ussīsa), from Sanskrit उच्छीर्षक (ucchīrṣaka). Cognate with Bhili ઉહીકું (uhīkũ), Hindi उसीसा (usīsā), Marathi उशी (uśī), Marwari उसीसौ (usīsau).
