Either borrowed from Classical Persian سیب (sēb, apple), or inherited from Sanskrit सेवि (sevi) (itself maybe borrowed from Iranian); ultimately from Proto-Iranian *cáywaH. Doublet of older Doublet of ਸੇ (se), ਸੇਉ (seu), and ਸਿਓ (sio).
