Borrowed from Classical Persian فتح (fath), from Arabic فَتْح (fatḥ). Possibly from an earlier Old Punjabi *ਫਤਹਿ (*phatahi), with the modern pronunciation due to the older feminine suffix. Compare Hindi फ़तह (fatah).
