Cognate to Gujarati હૈયું (haiyũ), Marwari हिवड़ा (hivṛā), Assamese হিয়া (hia), Bengali হিয়া (hiẏa), Punjabi ਹੀਆ (hīā). Doublet of हृदय (hŕday) and दिल (dil). Compare English heart, Latin cor, and Ancient Greek καρδίᾱ (kardíā) (whence English cardia).
