Inherited from Prakrit सेंधव (seṃdhava, “rock salt (found in Sindh)”), from Sanskrit सै॒न्ध॒व (saindhavá, “pertaining to Sindh or the Indus river; rock salt (found in Sindh)”), vṛddhi derivative of सिन्धु॑ (síndhu, “Indus”).
