Etymology
Along with the earlier Vedic form रम्बते (rámbate), perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *(s)lemb(ʰ)- (“to hang loosely, hang limply”); compare Proto-Germanic *limpaną (“to glide, hang down”) and Latin limbus (“border; hem”).[1] Not related to Lithuanian rambùs (“dull, lazy”). The "support" meanings may have been influenced by the separate root रम्भ् (rambh), a byform of रभ् (rabh, “to take hold of”).[2][3]
