Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Iranian *mayníš, probably from Proto-Indo-European *mey- (“to exchange”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬨𐬀𐬉𐬌𐬥𐬌 (maēini, “punishment, castigation”).[1][2]
