Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *mon- (“neck, nape”). Cognate with Proto-Celtic *monis (“neck”), Proto-Germanic *manō (“mane”) (whence English mane),[1] Ancient Greek μάννος (mánnos, “necklace”).
