Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *men-, whence Ancient Greek μόνος (mónos, alone), Old Armenian մանր (manr, a little), Tocharian B menki. Perhaps related to मी (, to lessen). For the -अक् (-ak) suffix from the root अञ्च् (añc), compare सम्यक् (samyak, together) and तिर्यक् (tiryak, across).
