Etymology
From Proto-Indo-European *men-, whence Ancient Greek μόνος (mónos, “alone”), Old Armenian մանր (manr, “a little”), Tocharian B menki. Perhaps related to मी (mī, “to lessen”). For the -अक् (-ak) suffix from the root अञ्च् (añc), compare सम्यक् (samyak, “together”) and तिर्यक् (tiryak, “across”).
