Inherited from Prakrit 𑀯𑀸𑀲 (vāsa), from Sanskrit वास (vāsa, perfume). Doublet of वास (vās). Compare Gujarati વાસ (vās), Marathi वास (vās), Punjabi ਬਾਸ (bās) / باس (bās), Bengali বাস (baś).
