Etymology
Related to Avestan 𐬚𐬭𐬁 (θrā, “to protect”, root), which would point to a Proto-Indo-Iranian *traH (“to protect”), though with further etymology unclear. Mayrhofer tentatively suggests derivation from a Proto-Indo-European *treh₂-, which appears potentially related to the common root *terh₂- (“to pass through”).[1]
