Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *tawkás, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tawkás, from Proto-Indo-European *tewk-ós, from *tewk- (“seed, offspring”). Cognate with Old English þēoh, Old Norse þjó (“thigh”); Lithuanian taukai, Polish tuk (“lard”). More distantly related to Irish tóin (“buttocks”) and Old Persian 𐎫𐎢𐎶𐎠 (t-u-m-a /taumā/, “family”).
