Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *tanáwti, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tanáwti, from Proto-Indo-European *tn̥néwti, from *ten- (“to stretch, draw”). Cognate with Ancient Greek τείνω (teínō), Latin tendō, Old English þennan.
