Inherited from Old Marathi 𑘛𑘹𑘽𑘎𑘨 (ḍheṃkara), from Maharastri Prakrit *𑀟𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀸𑀭 (*ḍakkāra), from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀟𑀓𑁆𑀓𑀸𑀭 (*ḍakkāra). Cognate with Hindi डकार (ḍakār), Punjabi ਡਕਾਰ (ḍakār) / ڈکار (ḍakār), Nepali डकार (ḍakār), Kashmiri ڈاکُر (ḍākur).
