Etymology
From Proto-Indo-Aryan *ćánas, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *čánas, from *kanH- (“to love, take pleasure in”), perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *kenh₂- (“to be pleased, enjoy”), infixed nasal stem of *keh₂- (“to like, wish”).
