Etymology

Of obscure origin. The earliest known attestation appears in Bāṇabhaṭṭa’s Harshacharita (c. 630 CE); earlier scholarship associated the Gurjaras with the Hunas (Huns), though this view is no longer widely accepted.[1] The name could be of indigenous/non-Indo-European origin.
