गट्ठा

Etymology
Etymology tree
Inherited from Proto-New Indo-Aryan *गट्ठ (gaṭṭha) (compare attested गट्ठिया (gaṭṭhiyā)) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-), from Sanskrit ग्रथ्न (grathna, “bunch”), from the root ग्रन्थ् (granth, “to bind”) + -न (-na).[1]
The senses "bulb" and "joint" may be influenced by गाँठ (gā̃ṭh, “knot, joint”). Compare Punjabi ਗੰਢਾ (gaṇḍhā, “onion”) and Sindhi ڳنڍ (g̠aṇḍhi, “bulb of an onion; knot”), which show similar semantic range.
