From Proto-Indo-European *kʷreyh₂- (“to buy”).[1][2][3] Cognate with Welsh prynu, Old Irish crenaid, Ancient Greek ἐπριάμην (epriámēn), Proto-Slavic *krьnǫti, Tocharian B käry- (“to buy”), karyor (“buying”).
