Etymology
Borrowed from Classical Persian قَامُوس (qāmūs), from Arabic قَامُوس (qāmūs), ultimately from Ancient Greek ὠκεανός (ōkeanós). It came to be used as a word for dictionary in Arabic after a lexicon published named Al-Qamus (see Firuzabadi). Doublet of ऊक़ियानूस (ūqiyānūs).
