Etymology
From ई (ī, “this”) + दृश् (dṛś, “to see, look”), i.e. "from this appearance".[1] For a semantic parallel of "to see" > "object with seen qualities", albeit from a different Indo-European root, compare Latin speciēs (“view; type, quality”).
