Etymology

From Proto-Indo-Iranian *HiHā́ya ~ *HiHyŕ̥, possibly from an older Proto-Indo-European perfect *h₁e-h₁óy-e ~ *h₁e-h₁y-ḗr; ultimately from the root *h₁ey- (to go). Cognate with Avestan 𐬌𐬌𐬈𐬌𐬌𐬆𐬥 (iieiiən, will have gone, 3pl.perf.subj.).
